Curriculum Overview

The Curriculum at St Alban's Catholic High School 2024 - 2025

Our Curriculum Vision

Driven by our vision and core values of learning, respecting and caring, our curriculum at St Alban’s Catholic High School, both within the classroom and beyond, emphasises a broad and balanced approach, designed and delivered in a motivational and engaging way that promotes inclusivity and accessibility to all. A focus on developing a strong moral purpose and fostering academic curiosity to ignite students’ interest in learning, encourages them to explore new opportunities and experiences. We inspire creativity whilst fostering a sense of social and ethical responsibility.

The curriculum aims for students to become ‘knowledge-rich’ individuals, confident in applying their knowledge across diverse contexts, with an emphasis on long-term memory retention. The use of retrieval practice, formative assessments, and more formal summative assessments supports students’ knowledge recall and application, with a focus on providing actionable feedback. This is achieved through a curriculum structure that creates a common thread between topics and across all disciplines.

Our curriculum aims to equip students with the cultural capital needed to engage confidently, compassionately and meaningfully in society, including the ability to participate in, and empathise with, discussions on a broad range of topics beyond academic assessments.

The school prioritises disciplinary literacy, which weaves throughout our curriculum in supporting students' development in reading, writing, and speaking within specific subjects, ensuring they can fully access and engage with the curriculum.

Rooted in Gospel values, it allows students to meet their God-given potential by ensuring students leave both spiritually and academically nourished, enabling them to achieve their complete dignity as persons in a relationship with Christ. This well-rounded approach aims to prepare students for both their vocations and contributions to society, and the common good.
