General Details for Candidates

St Alban’s Catholic High School principally serves the Ipswich Deanery, which includes Ipswich and South Suffolk. It is situated in a very pleasant residential area of Ipswich and is well served by transport links. It is the only denominational secondary school in the publicly funded sector in the South of  Suffolk. As such, it attracts strong interest not just from the Catholic community but also from other denominations. The admissions policy is based upon denominational criteria and our intake represents the typical intake of a comprehensive school.

St Alban’s is a mixed, non-ability selective 11-18 school with 984 pupils on roll. Significant expansion programmes have enabled the school to provide dedicated facilities for specialised teaching, including the most recent development opened in 2015 for Sixth Form expansion. The main school building and Science department has had a refurbishment that together with integrated ICT facilities now provides quality teaching accommodation.

The school benefits from the active support of both the Diocese of East Anglia and Suffolk Local Authority. It has been pro active in local educational networks. Overall, the school has made significant progress in recent years and is well placed to move forward into a new phase of successful further development.
